On neutrino oscillations searches with ANTARES
نویسنده
چکیده
Although the first evidence for neutrino oscillations came from measurements on atmospheric neutrinos in underground experiments, neutrino oscillations have yet to be demonstrated in high energy neutrino telescopes, whose energy threshold is significantly higher. Recent studies have shown that a clean sample of atmospheric neutrinos with energies as low as 20 GeV can be isolated in the ANTARES neutrino telescope. Such a threshold is low enough to allow the observation of neutrino oscillation features. A robust analysis method is presented which allows the extraction of atmospheric neutrino oscillation parameters.

Recent results from the ANTARES neutrino telescope
The ANTARES neutrino telescope is currently the largest operating water Cherenkov detector and the largest neutrino detector in the Northern Hemisphere. Its main scientific target is the detection of high-energy (TeV and beyond) neutrinos from cosmic accelerators, as predicted by hadronic interaction models, and the measurement of the diffuse neutrino flux. Its location allows for surveying a l...

The ANTARES collaboration is building a deep underwater neutrino Cerenkov telescope at 2400 m which will be located off the Mediterranean sea coast near Toulon, France. The main scientific aims of the experiment are the detection of high energy upgoing muons coming from astrophysical neutrinos, indirect dark matter searches, the study of atmospheric neutrino oscillations. The detector will be c...

The ANTARES deep-sea neutrino telescope will be located at a depth of 2400 m in the Mediterranean Sea. Deployment of the detector will commence this Autumn and is expected to be completed by the end of 2004. With a surface area of the order of 0.1 km 2 it will be one of the largest European detectors. The aim of neutrino telescopes is to detect high-energy neutrinos from astrophysical sources w...
متن کاملPoint source searches with the ANTARES neutrino telescope
With the installation of its last two lines in May 2008, ANTARES is currently the largest neutrino detector in the Northern Hemisphere. The detector comprises 12 detection lines, carrying 884 ten-inch photomultipliers, at a depth of about 2500 m in the Mediterranean Sea, about 40 km off shore Toulon in South France. Thanks to its exceptional angular resolution, better than 0.3 above 10 TeV, and...
متن کاملProbing Lorentz Invariance Violation in Atmospheric Neutrino Oscillations with a Neutrino Telescope
One possible feature of quantum gravity may be the violation of Lorentz invariance. In this paper we consider one particular manifestation of the violation of Lorentz invariance, namely modified dispersion relations for massive neutrinos. We show how such modified dispersion relations may affect atmospheric neutrino oscillations. We then consider how neutrino telescopes, such as ANTARES, may be...
